The spider guard is a defensive position that is most often used when grappling with a gi. The soles of your feet are placed against the opponent's thighs, upper arms, hips or torso. You should hold your opponent by the wrists or forearms. The spider guard is most often used by grabbing the sleeves of the gi, but it is just as effective when used by grabbing any long sleeve shirt or even bare against the wrists. Your opponent is controlled by using both the arms and the feet.
